Knox College, located in Galesburg, is a nationally recognized liberal arts college. The college has an active Jewish Students Club; Jewish students occasionally lead worship services and teach in the Sunday School. Thanks to three endowments that support Jewish Studies, the college also regularly brings visiting speakers, cultural groups and scholars-in-residence. (Two of these endowments were created by gifts from members of Temple Sholom.) The Temple also maintains contact with Jewish students and faculty at nearby Monmouth College and Western Illinois University, welcoming them to religious services and Jewish cultural events.
Affiliated Jewish Organizations
The local Jewish cemetery (Brookside) is maintained by a separate organization, the Galesburg Jewish Cemetery Association.
Other Jewish Congregations
Larger Jewish congregations can be found in Peoria (Reform and traditional) and in the Quad Cities (Reform and Conservative), each about 45 miles from Galesburg.
